What your plan lets you send
Email goes out on the League plan. Push, scheduling and the Custom Filter need the Club plan. Here is what each one looks like on the plan that does not include it, and which of them warns you and which do not.
Quick answer. On the League plan you can email your golfers. Push, Schedule and the Custom Filter audience did not work there. The page warns you about Push before you pick it. It does not warn you about the other two until you press the last button.
Who can do this: an Admin. This was walked as an Admin. We did not walk it as an Organizer.
Web only. This article covers the web pages. We did not check the phone app.
Before you start
We walked the same club on two plans, the Club plan and the League plan. We did not walk any other plan. The Communications page links to a See plans page that lists them. We did not open it.
The steps
- Open Communications and press Compose Message. The same five steps as in Send a message to your field.
- Look at the Channel step. On the League plan, three of the six cards are greyed out: Push only, Push + Email and All channels. Each says Needs Club plan, and its hover text reads "Push notifications need the Club plan." Under the cards the page says "Push notifications are part of the Club plan. Email and Player Inbox work on your current plan." and links to See plans. Email only, Player Inbox only and Email + Player Inbox stay open. We sent email only. We did not send to the Player Inbox.
- Carry on as usual. An email to an event's field on the League plan went out the same as on the Club plan. The page said "Sent to 7 recipients." and, under it, "Email — 5 sent · 2 skipped".
What you should see
On the Club plan all six channel cards are open, and the grey note is gone. The same Custom Filter message, to the same event's unlinked golfers, went out: the page said "Sent to 7 recipients." and, under it, "Email — 5 sent · 2 skipped", and the Broadcasts row said Sent with 7. Schedule worked too, as in Schedule a message to go out later.
If it goes wrong
- Push is greyed out. The plan does not include it. Pick an email or Player Inbox card, or see See plans.
- I pressed Schedule and the page said "Send failed: Scheduled messages require a Club plan. Upgrade to unlock this feature." The League plan does not include scheduling. The page shows Schedule and the Send at box as usual and refuses only after you press the button. Nothing was scheduled. Send now is still on offer. We have written this up as a bug. See Schedule a message to go out later.
- The Custom Filter said 7 players, then "No eligible recipients found." On the League plan the Custom Filter audience card and its filters open as usual, and the preview counted 7 players. When we pressed Send Now the page said "No eligible recipients found." with an Edit audience link. The Broadcasts tab then listed the message as Sent, with 0 recipients. Nobody was emailed. The same message sent about eight minutes later, on the Club plan, reached 7 recipients. We have written this up as a bug. Use Event field instead, which does not need the Club plan.
- I picked Push on the Club plan. We did not send a Push message, so we do not know what the page shows after.
- A plan we did not walk. We did not walk the Free plan or any other. We do not know which of these options open there.
- The messages my club sends on its own. We did not walk any automatic message, so this article does not say what each plan sends by itself.
Director's tip
On the League plan, send the field an email the day before and tell them in it what time you will start. You cannot schedule it, so put it on your own calendar.
