I got an invitation link: now what?
A club invited you by email. Here is what the invitation page shows, what to press, how long the link lasts, and why it can say "Invitation Unavailable" even after you are in.
Quick answer. Open the link from the email. If you are not signed in, the page tells you which club invited you and asks you to sign in, or to create a free account, with the same email address the invitation went to. Then you are in the club. A link works for 7 days.
Who can do this: anyone who was sent an invitation by a club Admin.
Web only. This article covers the web pages. We did not check the phone app.
Before you start
Look at the address the email came to. That is the address you must sign in with. The invitation belongs to that address.
The steps
- Open the link. Press the button in the email, or paste the link into your browser. The page says "You've been invited" and "You're invited to join" the club's name "on Back9Ops. Sign in or create a free account to accept."
- Read the note. The page says "Check that you sign in with the same email address you received this invitation at."
- Pick one of two buttons. Sign In to Accept is for someone who already has a Back9Ops account. Create a Free Account is for someone who does not. There is also a "Sign in instead" link for people who already have an account.
- Finish signing in. For a new account, how to make it and confirm the email is in Add someone to your club.
- You are in. When we opened the link signed in, with an account on the invited address, the club took us in at once. We landed on the club's Dashboard, and the Admin's Club Staff list showed us with the role the Admin had picked.
What you should see
Your club's name on the Dashboard, and the buttons for your role. For what each role can do, see Who can do what in your club.
If it goes wrong
- The page says "Invitation Unavailable" and "This invitation link has already been used, has expired, or does not exist." Three things look the same here. The link is older than 7 days. It was already used. Or the club cancelled it, which we did not walk. Ask the Admin to send a new one. We opened a link whose 7 days had passed and saw exactly these words.
- I just signed in and it says "Invitation Unavailable", but I think I joined. We saw this twice. The page took us into the club, and then showed this message anyway. The Admin's Club Staff list showed us as a member each time. We have written it up as a bug. Go to the Dashboard and check for the club's name before you ask for a new link.
- The page says "This invitation link is invalid." The link is damaged, often cut short when copied. Use the button in the email, or copy the whole link again.
- I signed in and I do not see the club. You may have signed in with a different address than the one invited. We did not walk this one. Sign out and sign in with the address the email came to, or ask the Admin to invite the address you use.
- Go to Home. That is the only button on the "Invitation Unavailable" page.
Director's tip
If you invited someone and they say the link is dead, look at Club Staff before you send a second one. They may already be in.
