Playoffs and closing the season
Record who won a playoff between golfers who finished level, then archive the league when the season is over, and bring it back if you did it too soon.
Quick answer. If golfers finish level and you want a playoff to decide it, set How ties are handled to Settle ties with a playoff you record. A Settle a tie card then appears on the Standings tab. Tap the golfers in the order they finished, winner first, and press Save playoff result. When the season is over, press More league actions, then Archive League. The league shows Archived. Restore to Active brings it back. Archiving asks no question first.
Who can do this: an Admin. This was walked as an Admin. We did not walk it as an Organizer. Who can do what in your club has the full list.
Before you start
The playoff happens on the course. Back9Ops does not run it, it only keeps the result. Standings, points and ties explains the three ways to handle a tie.
The steps
- Press Edit at the top of the league page. Set How ties are handled to Settle ties with a playoff you record. Press Save Changes.
- Open the league and press the Standings tab. If golfers are level, a card headed Settle a tie appears. It says "Tap the players in the order they finished the playoff — the winner first." Each group of level golfers is labelled with where they are tied, such as "Tied for 2nd".
- Play the playoff. Then tap the golfers in the order they finished, winner first. Each golfer you tap shows the place they got, such as 2nd and 3rd.
- Press Save playoff result. If you tapped in the wrong order, press Start over first.
- The card says "Playoff recorded". In the standings, a small Playoff badge sits beside those golfers' names, with a note: "Players marked "Playoff" were level in the standings; their order comes from the playoff the organizers recorded."
- When the season is over, open the league and press More league actions. The menu has Go Back to Setup, Start Next Season, Archive League and Cancel League. Press Archive League. There is no question first.
- The league's badge now reads Archived. The buttons change to Start Next Season, Restore to Active and Delete. On the standings TV page, the mark that said LIVE now says FINAL.
- If you archived too soon, press Restore to Active. The league is Active again.
What you should see
A recorded playoff shows "Playoff recorded" on the card and a Playoff badge in the standings. An archived league shows Archived, and its TV page shows FINAL.
If it goes wrong
- The Settle a tie card is not there. It only shows when golfers are level, and only when the league is set to Settle ties with a playoff you record. Under Allow ties we did not see it.
- You tapped the golfers in the wrong order. Press Start over before you save. After you save, we did not walk changing a recorded playoff, so we cannot say how.
- You archived the league and golfers still need it. Press Restore to Active. We pressed it and the league came back as Active.
- You want to know what archiving does to scoring, the weeks left, or what golfers see. We did not walk that. We saw only the Archived badge, the new buttons and FINAL on the TV page.
- You want next season. There is a Start Next Season button on the menu and on an archived league. We did not press it, so we do not say what it copies.
- Do not press Delete or Cancel League to close a season. We did not walk either. Archive the league instead, because archiving can be undone.
- You are an Organizer. We did not walk it as an Organizer.
Director's tip
Record the playoff the same night, while everyone remembers the order. Archive the league after the last week is finalized and the trophies are handed out, not before.
