Fix a wrong score

A golfer's card has a wrong number on it. Here is how an Admin changes one hole from the scoring page, how to put it back, and what to do when the event is already closed.

Quick answer. Press Enter Scores on the event page, tap the hole that is wrong, and tap the right number. It saves on that one tap. The History link under the golfer's name shows who changed what and lets you put it back. If the event is closed, the number keys are switched off until you press Open Scoring Now.

Who can do this: an Admin. This was walked as an Admin. We did not walk it as an Organizer.

Web only. This article covers the web pages. We did not check the phone app.

Before you start

Find out which hole and which golfer. The scoring page lists every golfer in the round with all eighteen holes, so you can see the card as it stands before you touch anything. The page says "Any player in a group can enter scores for that group. Admin scoring override is available."

The steps

  1. Open the scoring page. On the event page, press Enter Scores.
  2. Tap the wrong hole. Find the golfer's row and tap the hole. A box titled FOCUSED SCORE ENTRY opens with the golfer's name, the hole number, the par and CURRENT SCORE. It shows the keys 1 to 9, 10+, Clear and Next.
  3. Tap the right number. In our walk a golfer's hole 18 went from 5 to 4 on that one tap. Their IN, TOT and NET all moved at once, and the box jumped to the next golfer's hole 1. If that is not the hole you want, tap the hole you meant.
  4. Check the history. Press History under the golfer's name. The panel lists each change, such as "Hole 18" with "5 → 4", with the time and who made it, for example "Scoring desk" and a name, and the earliest entries underneath.
  5. Put it back if you must. Beside a change is a button such as Put back 5. Press it. The page says "Hole 18 is 5 again." and shows an Undo.

If the event is already closed

  1. Read the page. On a closed event the scoring page says "Scoring is closed — players cannot enter scores." and the number keys are greyed out. Tapping them does nothing.
  2. Press Open Scoring Now. It asks no question. The keys come back.
  3. Fix the hole. Tap the hole and the number. The page says "Admin correction saved."
  4. Close scoring again. At the top of the scoring page, the line Scoring: Open has a small switch beside it. Flip it, and the line says Scoring: Closed. Our event page still said Scoring Closed after the fix, while the scoring page's own line said Open, so look at both before you walk away.

What you should see

After the correction, the golfer's total and net changed on the scoring page, and the leaderboard showed the new gross and net. On our closed event the leaderboard still said FINAL RESULTS after the fix. The event stayed Closed.

A golfer who opened their own scorecard on the closed event read "Scoring is closed for this round. Contact your event operator if you need to enter or change a score." Their page also says "Scores are locked after submission."

If it goes wrong

  • The keys do nothing. Scoring is closed for this round. Press Open Scoring Now, or flip the Scoring switch at the top of the page.
  • A golfer says they can't change their own score. On a closed event they can't. They should tell you the hole and the number. We did not walk a golfer changing their own score while an event was still open, so we cannot tell you what Scores are locked after submission locks.
  • I tapped the wrong number by mistake. Tap the right one, or open History and press Put back.
  • The leaderboard still shows the old number. Open the scoring page and check that the hole holds the number you meant. Our leaderboard matched the scoring page.
  • I want to know who changed a hole. History names the person at the scoring desk and the time.
  • There is a Verify button on the row. We did not press it, so we can't say what it does.
  • The event is archived. We did not walk a fix on an archived event.
  • I reopened the event and golfers still can't score. Reopening does not open scoring. See Close the event and lock the results.

Director's tip

Fix scores in front of the golfer or the group captain. Say the hole and the number out loud, tap it, then show them the row. When you finish on a closed event, close scoring again before you leave the table.
