Close the event and lock the results
When the last card is in, press Close Event. Here is what the page asks you first, what changes for your golfers, and how to undo it if you pressed it too soon.
Quick answer. When the last card is in, press Close Event at the top of the event page. The page asks you a question only if cards are missing. Once it is closed, the leaderboard says FINAL RESULTS and golfers can no longer enter scores. If you pressed it too soon, open More and choose Reopen Event.
Who can do this: an Admin. This was walked as an Admin. We did not walk it as an Organizer.
Web only. This article covers the web pages. We did not check what the phone app shows when an event closes.
Before you start
Look at the Rounds box on the event page. It says how many cards are in, such as "0 of 4 cards in" or "No scores yet". If a card is missing, find out why before you close. The page will warn you, but it will not stop you.
The steps
- Check the cards. On the event page, read the Rounds box. Press View Leaderboard if you want to see the standings first.
- Press Close Event. The button is at the top of the event page, beside Enter Scores.
- Answer the question, if there is one. With every card in, our stroke play event closed without asking anything. With cards missing, the page opens a box with Never mind and Close event. Rain is coming mid-round shows the exact words. Never mind leaves the event running.
- Read the page. The header now says Closed, with View Results, Share Results and More. The page says "Event closed — it's a wrap!" and "Scores are locked. Share the results with your players." Under Rounds, the round says Scoring Closed.
- Look at the leaderboard. Press View Results.
- Reopen it if you must. Press More. The menu lists TV View, Reopen Event, Archive and Delete. Press Reopen Event. The page asks "Reopen this event? It will return to Active status and scores can be edited again." and adds "Players who already got the results email won't be emailed again when you close it." Press Reopen event, or Never mind.
What you should see
On the leaderboard of our closed stroke play event, the status said FINAL RESULTS and the banner said OFFICIAL RESULTS with "This event is complete — scores are locked and final." The golfers were listed with an F under THRU. A golfer who opened their own scorecard saw "Scoring is closed for this round. Contact your event operator if you need to enter or change a score."
We closed three kinds of event: stroke play, Wolf and match play. We saw the Ryder Cup close in Run a Ryder Cup style event. We did not close a Stableford, scramble, skins, match play bracket or series event, so we cannot say what closing does for those. We did not press Share Results, and we did not check which emails go out when an event closes.
If it goes wrong
- The page lists cards that are not finished. That is the warning for missing cards. Read Rain is coming mid-round.
- The page says "No scores have been entered for this event at all." That is exactly what it means. We closed a match play event with no scores and then reopened it, so the box is not a wall.
- I closed it too soon. Press More, then Reopen Event. The event returns to Active status.
- I reopened it and golfers still cannot enter scores. Reopening does not open scoring. After we reopened an event, the Rounds box said Scoring Closed and "· tap to open". Press it, or press Open Scoring Now on the scoring page.
- One score is wrong on a closed event. See Fix a wrong score. You do not have to reopen the whole event.
- The leaderboard still says LIVE or Awaiting Results. See It says finished but we're still playing.
- I closed a Ryder Cup event and the warning sounded wrong. It is the stroke play warning. Run a Ryder Cup style event explains.
Director's tip
Do the last check in person. Stand at the scoring table, ask every group whether their card is in, then press Close Event yourself. A closed event looks final to every golfer who opens the leaderboard.
