How scoring works on game day
It is the morning of the event. Here is how to open scoring, how golfers put their scores in, how you fix one, and where to watch the standings.
Quick answer. Starting the event does not open scoring. Open it yourself on the round: press the Scoring Closed · tap to open button on the round's card. Then each golfer scores from the QR code on their own card, and you can enter or fix any score yourself on the Enter Scores page. The standings are on View Leaderboard and TV View.
Who can do this: an Admin or an Organizer.
Before you start
Have the groups made and the event started. Make the groups, by hand or auto-pair and Your event's home base cover those. Print the packet if you want paper cards with QR codes, as below.
The steps
- Print the cards. On the event page, find the round's card and press Field Packets. The page shows how many pairings and group scorecards are ready. Press Generate Packet, then Print Packet or Download PDF. The page says "QR guest scoring included — players scan to score, no login needed." Every golfer's card has their own QR code. Further down, Desk sheets has a Check-in sheet, a Tee sheet and Labels for the table.
- Open scoring. On the round's card, press Scoring Closed · tap to open. Until you do, golfers cannot put scores in. The same switch is at the top of the Enter Scores page, where it reads "Scoring: Closed" with an Open it link, and a button Open Scoring Now.
- How a group scores. The page says "Any player in a group can enter scores for that group." Nobody is picked as the group's scorer. A golfer scans the QR code on their card. The page says "You're scoring as" and their name. They press Start Scoring, and the next page lists every golfer in their group with their score for the hole and says "Tap one to enter it". They tap a name, then tap the score.
- Watch it come in. Once the event is started, the event page has View Leaderboard and TV View. TV View opens a version for a clubhouse screen in a new tab.
- Enter or fix a score yourself. On the round's card, press Enter Scores. The page shows a grid with a row for each golfer and a box for each hole, with OUT, IN, TOT and NET at the right. Tap the box you want. A number pad appears with 1 to 9, 10+, Clear, Next and Close. Tap the number. It saves right away, and the pad moves on to the next hole. Next skips a hole without a score. Close puts the pad away.
- See who changed what. On the number pad, press History for hole to see every earlier score in that box, with the time and who entered it. To go back to an earlier number, press Put back beside it. A score you removed with Clear shows as "Cleared" and can be put back the same way.
- Close scoring. When everyone is in, press Scoring Open · tap to close on the round's card, or Close it at the top of the Enter Scores page.
What you should see
On the round's card, the button reads Scoring Open · tap to close. On the Enter Scores page, the top reads "Scoring: Open" and the grid fills in as scores arrive.
If it goes wrong
- A golfer says they cannot enter a score. Look at the round's card. If it says Scoring Closed · tap to open, scoring is not open. Press it. A golfer who scans while it is closed sees "Scoring isn't open right now. Check with your organizer."
- The packet says "Packet Not Ready". The page says "This packet is not ready yet" and lists what is missing, usually pairings. Press Set up pairings, which opens Round Setup. Set the round: tee times or shotgun walks through it.
- The packet page says "QR guest scoring and cart signs need a League or Club plan." Your club's plan does not include scan-to-score. You can still enter every score yourself on Enter Scores.
- A score is wrong. Tap its box on the Enter Scores page and tap the right number. It saves right away. History for hole keeps the earlier numbers, and Put back restores one.
- A golfer lost the card. Press Field Packets, open Reprint one group and press Reprint scorecard beside their group. The page says every other printed card keeps working, and in our walk the card already out on the course still opened too. Do not press Regenerate packet on game day: it replaces every QR code already printed. You can also enter their scores yourself on Enter Scores.
- A golfer can't get into scoring. Check the round's card first: Scoring Closed · tap to open means nobody can score until you press it. If scoring is open and the code still won't open, see The QR code won’t open.
- You are not sure it saved. Reload the Enter Scores page. The grid shows what is saved.
Director's tip
Open scoring before the first group walks to the tee, and say it out loud at the rules talk. "Scoring is open, scan the code on your card." A golfer who scans a closed card on the first tee may not try again.
