The QR code won’t open

You scanned the code on your card or cart sign and got an error instead of your scorecard. The messages we saw, what each one means, and what to do.

Quick answer. Read the words under "Unable to open scorecard". They tell you which problem you have. Most of the time the answer is the same: ask your organizer for a new card, as the page says.

Who can do this: anyone holding the card. No account needed.

Before you start

You need the card or the cart sign you were given. We walked this on a phone-sized screen. We did not walk the phone’s camera and we did not walk anything in the phone app.

The steps

  1. Scan the code once more.
  2. If a page with a heading "Unable to open scorecard" opens, read the line under it:
    • "This QR scoring link is not recognised. Please scan the QR code again." We typed a code that did not exist and got this.
    • "This QR scoring link has been revoked by the organiser." We got this from a code that belonged to a set of cards the organizer had since replaced with a newer set.
  3. Read the line under that. Both pages added "If you think this is a mistake, ask the organizer to send you a new QR code." Do that.
  4. If your name and the event open instead, the code works. The line under your name says what state the card is in. My scores aren’t showing shows what each one means.
  5. If the page lists names, it is a cart sign shared by a group. The page says "Tap your name to start scoring". Tap yours. Under the list it says "Not listed? Ask the organizer for your scorecard QR code."

What you should see

Either your event’s name with "YOU’RE SCORING AS:" and your name, or the list of names on a cart sign.

If it goes wrong

  • Your name is not the one shown. The page says "Not you? Ask the organizer for your scorecard QR code."
  • The page opens but will not take a score. See My scores aren’t showing.
  • You closed the page by mistake. Scan the same code again. Back to my round after closing the page shows what we saw.
  • A code that has expired, a code from an earlier round or a cancelled event. We did not walk this one. In the app’s code the words are "This QR scoring link has expired. Ask the organiser for a new scorecard.", "This QR scoring link was for an earlier round. Ask the organiser for a new scorecard." and "This event has been cancelled, so scoring is closed."
  • A cart sign that lists no players. We did not walk this one. In the app’s code the words are "This cart sign isn't linked to any players yet. Ask your organiser to reprint it."
  • You lost signal. I lost signal on the back nine.

Director's tip

This one is our advice, not a rule of the app. After you print new cards, throw the old ones away. An old code can show "revoked", and a golfer holding one will think the whole system is broken.
