Set up your event in four steps

You have a name, a course and a date. Four short screens turn that into an event page you can build on. Nothing is visible to players until you open registration.

Quick answer. Open Events, press Create Event, and answer four short screens: Event Details, Course & Dates, Registration and Review & Launch. Your event starts as a Draft, and players cannot see a Draft. Nothing goes out until you press Open Registration on the event page.

Who can do this: an Admin or an Organizer. If you are making your very first event, Your first event, start to finish is the whole path in order. This page is the one job in the middle of it.

Before you start

Have three things ready: what you are calling the event, which course, and the date. The course has to be in your club already, with at least one tee set. If it is not, Your first event, start to finish shows how to add one.

If you are not sure about the format, pick the one you would explain to the group on the first tee. Every screen says you can change settings later.

The steps

  1. Press Events in the left menu, then Create Event. The page says STEP 1 OF 4 and Event Details.
  2. Type the Event name. The Description is optional.
  3. Choose the Scoring format. Each choice has a one-line explanation under it: Stroke Play, Stableford, Match Play, Skins, Scramble, Wolf, Best Ball, Chapman and Ryder Cup. If you want players to sign up as teams, the Scramble line says they do.
  4. Under Handicap setup, choose No handicap (gross only) or Use player handicaps. The second one says it uses handicaps at 100% allowance. Press Continue.
  5. On Course & Dates, choose the Course and the Start date. If it is more than one round, choose the Number of rounds. End date is only for events that run over several days. When you pick the course, a Tee Set row appears. Pick the tees most of your players will use. Press Continue.
  6. On Registration, choose when players can start registering (Right away or On a specific date) and when it closes (Stay open — no close date or Close on a specific date). If you have a cap, type it in Max field size. Tick Enable waitlist if you want a waiting list once you are full. The page says you can change all of this later from Event Details. Press Continue.
  7. On Review & Launch, read the summary. It lists the name, format, handicap, course, tee set, dates, field size and registration. It also says "Your event starts in Draft — players can't see it yet." Press Create Event.

What you should see

Your event page opens with the word Draft beside the event name. Across the top is a four-part strip: Tee, Players, Pairings, Scoring. Each part says in plain words what is still to do, such as "no players yet" or "scoring isn't open yet". Lower down, a box called Before you start shows Not ready until the required items are done. Your event's home base walks through the rest of the page.

If it goes wrong

  • The course list has no tee set under it. The wizard says "This course has no tee sets yet — add one so handicaps and scorecards work." Add a tee set to the course under Courses in the left menu, then come back and choose it.
  • You skipped the tee set. You can still create the event, but it cannot start until you choose one. Press Tee in the strip on the event page.
  • You made the event by mistake. It is a Draft, so no player can see it. You do not have to delete it. Leave it, or ask your Admin to remove it.
  • You want to change a setting you chose. The event page has an Event Details box with an Edit button. The wizard's own words are "You can adjust all settings later."

Director's tip

Make the event a week early, not the morning of. A Draft costs nothing, and a missing tee set is a quick fix on a Tuesday and a long line at the first tee on a Saturday.
