Your profile: email, password and your data
Where to change the email address or password on your Back9Ops account, how to save your phone number, and where to download or delete the details Back9Ops holds about you.
Quick answer. Everything about your own login lives on Account settings. It has a tab each for your Profile (phone number), your Email, your Password and your Personal data. A club Admin or Organizer also sees Sign-in security there.
Who can do this: anyone signed in, for their own account only. These pages work on the account you are signed in with.
Before you start
You need to be signed in. To change your password you need the old one. To close your account you need the password too.
The steps
- Open Account settings. In the left-hand menu, press your name, just above Sign Out. We walked this as a club Admin. If you play only and your menu looks different, open My Profile and look for Open Identity Settings (Advanced); we did not walk that route.
- Phone number. On the Profile tab the Username is shown but you cannot edit it. Type your Phone number and press Save. The page says "Your profile has been updated". A number that is not a phone number is refused with "The Phone number field is not a valid phone number."
- Change your email. Open the Email tab. It shows your current address, and the New email box starts with that same address. Type the address you want in New email and press Change email. (Press it without changing the address and the page says "Your email is unchanged.") The page says "Confirmation link to change email sent. Please check your email." The email goes to the NEW address, not the old one (we saw nothing arrive at the old address). Open it and press Confirm Email. A page says "Confirm email change" and "Thank you for confirming your email change." From then on you sign in with the new address, and the old address no longer works.
- Change your password. Open the Password tab. Fill in Old password, New password and Confirm password and press Update password. The page says "Your password has been changed". You stay signed in. The old password then stops working and the new one works.
- Look at your data. Open the Personal data tab. The page says your account holds personal data you have given us and that you can download or delete it. Press Download to save a file called
PersonalData.json. Download or delete your data has the steps and what the file held.
What you should see
After a change the page confirms it in plain words, as above. Your email only changes after you press the button in the confirmation email. Until then, you still sign in with the old address.
If it goes wrong
- You pressed Change email and nothing came. Check the NEW address, and its spam folder. The email says "Confirm your Back9Ops account"; that is the same email wording Back9Ops uses for new accounts, so it can look odd. Press Confirm Email in it anyway. Forgot your password, or the email never came covers emails that do not arrive.
- The page says "The New email field is not a valid e-mail address." The address is mistyped. Fix it and press Change email again.
- The confirmation email's link opens a page that says "Error changing email." The link was cut short or has been used. We saw it on a link with a garbled code. Go back to the Email tab and press Change email again for a fresh email, and press Confirm Email in that one.
- "Error: Incorrect password." The Old password you typed is not the current one. If you have forgotten it, sign out and use Forgot password? on the sign-in page.
- "The new password and confirmation password do not match." Type the same new password in both boxes.
- "The New password must be at least 6 and at max 100 characters long." Make it longer. The page also tells you what a weak password is missing, such as a symbol, a number or a capital letter.
- You cannot find Sign-in security. We saw that tab on a club Admin and a club Organizer login, and not on a player-only login. Turn on the sign-in code says who gets it.
- You are the only Admin of a club and want to close your account. In the source, the page refuses and tells you to add another administrator first. We did not walk this one. Add a second Admin first: Add someone to your club.
Director's tip
This one is our advice, not a rule of the app. Change your email address here BEFORE you leave a job or hand a club over, and pick an address you will keep. The confirmation goes to the new address, so make sure you can read it.
