Download or delete your data
How to download a copy of the details on your Back9Ops account, and how to delete the account for good. What we saw the file hold, what deleting does, and what to know first.
Quick answer. Open Account settings, press the Personal data tab, and press Download for a copy or Delete to close your account. Deleting is permanent: the page says it "cannot be recovered".
Who can do this: anyone signed in, for their own account. A club Admin who wants the whole club's records should use Download all your club's data instead.
Before you start
You need to be signed in, and for deleting you need your password. If you forgot it, use Forgot password? on the sign-in page first: Forgot your password, or the email never came.
The steps
Download a copy
- Open Account settings (in the left-hand menu, press your name; Your profile shows where) and press the Personal data tab.
- The page says "Your account contains personal data that you have given us. This page allows you to download or delete that data." Press Download.
- Your browser saves a file called
PersonalData.json. It is plain text. On our new test account it was a small file (376 bytes) holding only account details: display name, first and last name, the account ID and user name, your email address and whether it is confirmed, your phone number and whether it is confirmed, whether the extra sign-in step is on, and a few other account details. We have not seen it for an account with scores or events in it.
Delete your account
- On the same Personal data tab the page says "Deleting this data will permanently remove your account, and this cannot be recovered." Press Delete.
- The next page is called Delete Personal Data. Type your Password.
- Press Delete data and close my account. You are signed out and sent to the sign-in page. We then tried the old email and password and the page said "The email or password you entered is incorrect. Please try again." The account was gone.
What you should see
For a download, a file saved by your browser. For a delete, you land on the sign-in page, signed out, and that email no longer works. If you meant to keep the account, you cannot undo this; you would make a new one.
If it goes wrong
- "Error: Incorrect password." The password box was empty or wrong. We saw that nothing was deleted and the account stayed. Try again with the right password.
- You are the only Admin of a club. In the source, the page refuses and says "You're the only administrator of" your club's name and to add another administrator or transfer the organization first. We did not walk this one. Add someone to your club shows how to add a second Admin.
- You played in events and want to know what happens to your scores. In the source, the scores other people played in stay, with your name replaced by "Deleted Player" and your email and phone cleared. We did not walk this one, because our test account had no scores.
- You want a copy of your club's records, not just your own. That is a different button, and only for an Admin: Download all your club's data.
- You want us to do it, or you cannot sign in. Email support@back9ops.com from the address on the account and say what you want. Contact us says what to include.
Director's tip
This one is our advice, not a rule of the app. Download your file first, even if you are sure. If you also run a club, download the club's data too before you close anything: Download all your club's data.
