Playing in an event: what to expect

You signed up. Here is where to find your event, your tee time and your group, what to press on the day, and where to see how you did.

Quick answer. Sign in and open your home page. Your event is on it, with your tee time and who you are playing with. On the day, press Enter Scores on the Live Now card, put in the scores for your group, check the card and submit it. View Leaderboard shows where everyone stands.

Who can do this: any golfer who is on the event's field and signed in.

Before you start

You need a Back9Ops account and a place on the field. Signing in, and what to do if you cannot covers the account. If you are not sure you are on the field, ask the director.

The steps

  1. Sign in. Your home page opens on Today and says "Welcome back" with your first name.
  2. Find your event before the day. Once the director has posted the groups, the card at the top of your home page says Next Up. It names your event and shows your tee time, who you are playing With and the hole you start on. Press View My Tee Time to open your event, or My Schedule to see what you have Coming up. If one of your leagues has a week open for scoring, we saw that card show League Scoring instead. Lower down, under Your Upcoming Events, your event shows with its date and club. Press Open Event. You can also press My Events under Quick Actions. There the event says "You're registered", and Open My Event takes you to it.
  3. Read your event page. It says "You're registered" and has your round, the leaderboard and the schedule. Until the director posts the groups, it says "Pairings are not posted yet. Check back closer to the event date for tee time and group details." Nothing is wrong. Come back later.
  4. On the day, look for the Live Now card. It is at the top of your home page. It names the event, says whether scoring is open, and shows your tee time, the golfers you are playing With, and the hole you start on ("Start hole 1").
  5. Press Enter Scores. That opens your scorecard. Score your round on your phone takes you through it hole by hole. If the director gave you a card with a QR code, Scoring without an account is the one to read.
  6. Check the card and submit it. When all 18 holes are in, press Review & Submit, look the holes over, then press Submit Scorecard. Once you submit, your scorecard is locked.
  7. See how you did. Press View Leaderboard. See the leaderboard and where you stand explains the columns.

What you should see

After you submit, your event page says "Scorecard submitted" and "Your round has been submitted. Live standings will continue updating as the field finishes." It has View Leaderboard and View My Scorecard buttons.

If it goes wrong

  • You cannot find your event. Open My Events from your home page. If it is not there either, check which email you signed in with. It should be the one you gave the director. If the event is still missing, tell the director before the round starts.
  • It says "Pairings are not posted yet." The director has not posted the groups. There is nothing for you to do. Check back closer to the day.
  • You are not sure scoring is open. The Live Now card says "Scoring is open." when it is. If it does not say that, ask the director whether scoring has been opened yet.
  • You cannot play after all. Before the event starts, your event page has an I can't make it button. Once the event has started, the page says "Changes are closed — the event has started." and you need to tell the director yourself.
  • You pressed Submit by mistake. Once you submit, your scorecard is locked and cannot be changed from the page. Tell the director what needs fixing.

Director's tip

Look at your start hole on the Live Now card before you walk to the first tee. In a shotgun start, groups begin on different holes, and the group that thought it started on 1 is the one that holds everyone up.
