It rained out

Cancel a league week that rained out, add a makeup night if you want one, and bring the week back if you cancelled it by mistake. Cancelling sends nothing to your golfers, so it says how to tell them.

Quick answer. Open the league, go to the Schedule tab, and press the Cancel this round button on the week that rained out. The week shows Cancelled. When we cancelled, we saw nothing go out to golfers, so send your own message with Tell your league. If you want to play that week another night, press Add Round and add a makeup round. If you cancelled the wrong week, press Restore cancelled round.

Who can do this: an Admin. This was walked as an Admin. We did not walk it as an Organizer. Who can do what in your club has the full list.

Before you start

You need the league page open. The cancelled week we walked had no groups built yet. We did not walk cancelling a week that already had its groups and cards.

The steps

  1. Open the league and press the Schedule tab. Every week is a card.
  2. Find the week that rained out. Its row of small buttons includes Edit date and start time, Duplicate as makeup round, Cancel this round, Restore cancelled round and Permanently delete this round. Hover over a button to see its name. Press Cancel this round.
  3. The page says "Round cancelled." The card now shows Cancelled and the words "Round Cancelled — no further actions needed".
  4. Golfers can see it. On a golfer's own league page, the cancelled week in their schedule carries a CANCELLED tag.
  5. Tell your golfers. We saw nothing go out when we pressed the button. Tell your league shows how to send a rain notice.
  6. To play the week on another night, press Add Round. Pick a DATE. The LABEL is optional, and the box shows "e.g. Week 7 Makeup" as an example. Press Add Round. The page says "Makeup round created." The new card is marked MAKEUP and shows its date and time, with "Not started". In our walk it took the next week number, Week 15.
  7. If the date is after the day your season ends, the page asks, for example, "Wed, Jan 20 is after your season ends on Jan 13. Add it anyway?" Press Add anyway to keep it, or Never mind.
  8. If you cancelled the wrong week, press Restore cancelled round on its card. The page says "Round restored to draft."

What you should see

The rained-out week marked Cancelled on the Schedule tab, a CANCELLED tag on golfers' schedules, and, if you added one, a card marked MAKEUP with the new date.

If it goes wrong

  • Your golfers are still showing up. We saw no message go out when we cancelled. Send the notice yourself. Tell your league has it.
  • You cancelled the wrong week. Press Restore cancelled round. The page says the round is restored to draft. We did not walk restoring a week that had groups built.
  • The makeup date is after your season ends. The page asks first. Press Add anyway if you mean it, or Never mind to back out.
  • You want to move the date instead of cancelling. The Edit date and start time button is on the card. We did not walk that one.
  • You want a copy of a week as a makeup. There is a Duplicate as makeup round button. We did not walk that one.
  • You want to know what a cancelled week does to the standings. We did not walk a season with a cancelled week through to its standings, so we cannot tell you.
  • Do not press Permanently delete this round for a rain-out. We did not walk it. Cancel the week instead, because cancelling can be undone.
  • A week rained out part way through, with scores already in. We did not walk that. Rain is coming mid-round is about the Close Event warning on an event.

Director's tip

Decide by the afternoon, cancel then, and send the notice at once. A cancelled week costs nothing, and golfers who read it at three o'clock do not drive to the club at five.

Still stuck?
