Print scorecards and field packets

The field packet is a scorecard and a cart sign for every group, each with a code golfers scan to score. Here is how to make it, print it, reprint one group, and print the check-in sheet, tee sheet, labels and rules sheet.

Quick answer. A field packet is one printed scorecard and one cart sign for every group in a round. Each card has a code on it that a golfer scans to score from their own phone, with no login. You make it on the round's Field Packets page. Press Generate Packet, then Print Packet or Download PDF. If you change the groups after you print, reprint just the groups that changed. Do not make the whole packet again unless you have to, because that stops every code already printed.

Who can do this: an Admin or an Organizer opens the Field Packets page. This was walked as an Admin.

Before you start

You need the groups. The page will not make a packet until the round has pairings. If you are not ready, the page says so and gives you a button to go and finish. How the round starts is in Set the round: tee times or shotgun.

Print the packet after the groups are final. If you move golfers later, the packet is out of date, and the page tells you.

The steps

  1. Open the round's Field Packets page. On the event page, find the round's card and press Field Packets. The page is called Field Packet Center and shows the event's name, "Round 1", the date and a badge. The Field Packets item in the left menu lists upcoming rounds too, but only rounds from yesterday to two weeks ahead, so a round further out is not there. Use the event page for that.
  2. Read the three numbers. PAIRINGS and GROUP SCORECARDS should match your number of groups. GENERATED shows when you last made the packet.
  3. If the page says the packet is not ready. It reads "This packet is not ready yet. Missing: pairings and group scorecards." Press Set up pairings.
  4. Press Generate Packet. The page says, "Pairings and scorecards are ready. Generate the packet to preview, print, or download it." A banner then says "QR guest scoring included — players scan to score, no login needed."
  5. Print it. Press Print Packet to print it, or Download PDF to keep a copy. Preview one lets you look at a single card before you print them all. Cart signs gives you the signs on their own.
  6. Print the desk sheets, if you want them. Below the packet is Desk sheets. They are made fresh each time you open one, so they always match the current groups.
    • Check-in sheet. "Every player A–Z with their hole, group, cart and a box to tick as they arrive." A tick box in the same section, Print handicaps on the check-in and tee sheets, adds each golfer's handicap.
    • Tee sheet. "Every group with its starting hole and players, for the starter."
    • Labels. "A label for every player with their name, where they start, their cart and the event." Pick Bag tags (30 per sheet) or Name badges (8 per sheet). Press Test page and print it on plain paper first, to see that it lines up with your label sheet.
    • Format & rules sheet. "One page for the players: how the game is scored, handicaps, ties, contests and how to enter a score, with a code for the live leaderboard."
  7. If you change the groups later. A banner reads "The printed packet is out of date. Pairings have changed since these cards were generated, so some printed cards show the old groups." Use Reprint one group for each group that changed: Reprint scorecard and Reprint cart sign. The page says "Every other printed card keeps working."
  8. If you must start over. Press More, then Regenerate packet. The page asks "Replace the whole packet?" and warns that every code already printed stops working. Press Replace packet only if you are going to print and hand out everything again.

What you should see

Here is a practice round with three groups. The page shows PAIRINGS 3, GROUP SCORECARDS 3 and GENERATED with the time. The buttons are Print Packet, Download PDF, Cart signs, Preview one and More. The packet is a PDF with a scorecard and a cart sign for each of the three groups. The check-in sheet lists all the golfers from A to Z, and the tee sheet lists the three groups with their starting holes.

If it goes wrong

  • The page says the packet is not ready. Press Set up pairings and finish the groups. Make the groups, by hand or auto-pair shows how.
  • The page says "QR guest scoring and cart signs need a League or Club plan." Your club's plan does not include scan-to-score. You can still enter every score yourself on Enter Scores.
  • I moved two golfers after I printed. Use Reprint one group for the groups that changed. Do not press Regenerate packet.
  • I pressed Regenerate packet and golfers say the codes do not work. That is what the page warned. Every code printed before is dead, so print the whole packet again and hand it out. Take back the old cards.
  • The page says "We could not create the packet. Try again or check the round setup." Check the round has pairings, then press Generate Packet again.
  • The preview does not open. The page says "Preview is not available in this browser. Download the PDF instead."
  • The cart signs did not download. The page says "We could not download the cart signs. Try again."
  • The cart sign has logos but no names. Cart signs print sponsor logos only. A sponsor shown as a nameplate does not print there. Add sponsors says more.
  • The round is not on the left-menu Field Packets list. The list stops two weeks ahead. Open the round from the event page instead.

Director's tip

Print the packet the night before and put each group's scorecard and cart sign in one clear sleeve. Write the group number on the sleeve in marker. On the morning, the starter can hand out sleeves in order and nobody asks "which one is mine".
