Add sponsors

Paste a list of business names from your spreadsheet, add a logo where a sponsor sent one, and choose who stands on which tee box. Here is where it all shows, and why every sponsor looks the same size.

Quick answer. Sponsors are the businesses that helped pay for your day. Open the event, press Settings, then Sponsors in the row of links at the top. Copy the business-name column out of your spreadsheet, paste it into the box, one name per line, and press Add these sponsors. Every business is on the list at once, shown as a name. Add a logo to any of them with Add logo. The page says where they show: your event page, the leaderboard and the clubhouse TV. On the public thank-you page every business appears the same size, with no amounts and no levels.

Who can do this: only an Admin. An Organizer who opens the page sees "Access denied" and "You do not have access to this resource." Ask an Admin to add the sponsors. This was walked on the Club plan.

Before you start

Have the names in a spreadsheet, one business per column cell, or on a list you can paste. You do not need the logos first. A sponsor with no logo shows as a name in plain type, and the page says "a nameplate is not second best."

A logo must be a PNG or a JPG, no bigger than 2 MB. The wider the better. The page asks for one at least 625 pixels wide, so the printed sign is sharp.

This was walked on the Club plan. If the sponsor pages do not open for your club, email us at the address at the bottom.

The steps

  1. Open the sponsors page. On the event page press Settings. Along the top is a row of links: Field, Import players, Pairings, Tee sheet and Sponsors. Press Sponsors. The page is called Sponsors and shows the event's name.
  2. Paste your list. Under Add sponsors from your list, paste the business names, one per line. The page says "Nothing else from your sheet is read." so only the names you paste are used. Press Add these sponsors.
  3. Read the line it gives back. It says, for example, "20 sponsors added." If some were already there it adds "2 were already on the list." Pasting the same list twice does not make duplicates. If every name was already there it says "They were all on the list already — nothing added."
  4. Add a logo where you have one. In the list called All sponsors, find the business and press Add logo. Pick the PNG or JPG. The tag next to the name changes from NAMEPLATE to LOGO, and the button now says Replace. A line near the top counts them, such as "1 logo in, 19 still on nameplates."
  5. Fix what a nameplate says, if you need to. A sponsor with no logo has a small box under the name that starts "Sign reads:" and the business name. Type what the sign should say, such as "Bluestem Realty & Loan" for a business you pasted as "Bluestem Realty". It is saved when you leave the box. Leave it empty and the sign reads the name you pasted. The A-to-Z list on the thank-you page keeps the name you pasted.
  6. Put a sponsor on a tee box. On the line for the business, open the dropdown at the right under TEE BOX and choose a hole. The business then appears in the card called Tee box signs under that hole, with a × to take it off. A hole can hold more than one sponsor.
  7. Hide anyone you do not want on screen. Untick the box under SHOW. The business stays on your list, and you can tick it again any time.
  8. Look at what the public sees. Press See the public page. It opens "Our Sponsors" in a new tab, with a line such as "19 businesses made this event possible." Tee box sponsors sit in cards at the top with their hole number, under TEE BOX SIGNS. Everyone is then listed A to Z under WITH THANKS TO.

What you should see

Here is a practice outing at Heron Bend Golf Club, a fictional club, with twenty sponsors pasted in, from Alder Street Florist to Willow Creek Plumbing. Alder Street sent a logo and shows as LOGO. The other nineteen show as NAMEPLATE. Birchwood Bakery and Lakeshore Family Dental stand on hole 3, Maple Ridge Hardware on hole 7 and Bluestem Realty on hole 12, with its sign set to read "Bluestem Realty & Loan". Willow Creek Plumbing is unticked.

The public page then says "19 businesses made this event possible." Four cards sit under TEE BOX SIGNS, the last one reading "BLUESTEM REALTY & LOAN", and the A-to-Z list under WITH THANKS TO has nineteen names. Willow Creek is not in it.

Where it shows, in the words on the page: "Logos show on your event page, the leaderboard and the clubhouse TV. Printed cart signs have room for the first 6." The flyer lists up to 18 sponsors. With more than that it prints "THANK YOU" and a line such as "Our 19 sponsors are named in full on the event page."

If it goes wrong

  • The Sponsors page will not open, or shows nothing to add. Email us the name of your club and we will check what your plan includes.
  • An Organizer sees "Access denied". Only an Admin opens this page.
  • The page says "Nothing to add." The box was empty, or held only blank lines. Paste the names and press Add these sponsors again.
  • A sponsor is missing from the flyer or the TV. Check that the box under SHOW is ticked.
  • A logo is on the list but not on the cart sign. Printed cart signs carry logos only, and have room for the first 6. A business shown as a nameplate does not print there. Print scorecards and field packets shows the signs.
  • The page warns that the logo is small. It says "Saved, but it's small — 300 pixels wide. It will look fuzzy on the printed signs. If you can, ask the sponsor for one at least 625 pixels wide." The logo is saved and shows. Press Replace when the better one arrives.
  • A logo will not upload. It is probably over 2 MB, or not a PNG or JPG. The page says so under the sponsor's name. Ask the sponsor for a smaller file.
  • The public page says "We couldn't find this event." The address is wrong or the event is gone. Press See the public page from the Sponsors page instead.
  • I pasted the wrong list. The pasted businesses are on the list now. Untick the ones you do not want on screen. They stay on the list, but nobody sees them.

Director's tip

Send each sponsor the link to the "Our Sponsors" page the day before the outing, with a line of thanks. Everyone likes to find their own name on a list, and a sponsor who has been thanked by name is easier to call next year.
