Signing in at the station

At the counter device, tap your name and then your 4-digit code. There is no email and no password. It also covers what to do when the counter asks again, or says too many tries.

Quick answer. At the counter, tap your name, then tap your 4-digit code on the number pad. There is no email and no password. When you hand the counter to someone else, press the button that shows your name and Switch, so the next person signs in as themselves.

Who can do this: anyone on your club's front desk crew. An Admin puts you on the crew and tells you your code. Counter staff with no email shows the Admin's side.

Before you start

You need two things from your Admin: your name on the crew list, and your 4-digit code. The counter computer or iPad must already be turned into the front desk. That is a one-time job for an Admin, and it is in the same article.

The steps

  1. Look at the counter screen. It asks Who's working the counter? and tells you "Tap your name, then enter your 4-digit code." Each person on the crew is a button.
  2. Tap your name. The screen now says your name and "enter your code", with four dots and a number pad.
  3. Tap your four digits. The dots fill as you go. If you tapped a wrong digit, press ⌫ to take back the last one. If you tapped the wrong name, press Cancel to get the names back.
  4. After the fourth digit the counter opens on Front Desk, with the question "What do you need to do?" A button with your name and Switch shows who is signed in.
  5. When your shift ends, or someone else takes over, press that button with your name and Switch. The names come back and nobody is signed in.

What you should see

The Front Desk screen with your name and Switch on it. From now on, what you do at the counter is recorded under your name in the club's History.

If it goes wrong

  • "That name or code isn't right." Either the name you tapped or the code was wrong, and the screen does not say which. Tap your name again and type the code slowly.
  • "Too many tries. Try again in about 1 minute, or ask your manager." Five wrong codes in a row lock that one name for about a minute. Even the right code is refused during that minute. Wait it out, or ask an Admin. On the Admin's Settings page your row shows Locked out with an Unlock button, and it says you can sign in again with your current code.
  • You forgot your code. Nobody can read a code back, not even the Admin. Ask the Admin to press New code next to your name. The new code shows once, and the old one stops working.
  • Your name is not on the list. The Admin has not added you yet. Ask them to follow Counter staff with no email.
  • The counter asked for your name again by itself. That happens in three cases: someone pressed Switch, the page was refreshed or reopened, or nobody touched the screen for about 10 minutes. We left a signed-in counter alone for 5 minutes and it was still signed in. After 11 minutes the first touch brought the names back. Just tap your name and type your code again.
  • You opened Settings and ended up back at the counter. That is on purpose. The counter device cannot open Settings. An Admin changes those on their own sign-in.
  • The counter shows the Back9Ops home page with a Sign In button. The device was signed out. It needs an Admin to sign in and turn it back into the front desk. Counter staff with no email has the steps.

Director's tip

Have everyone use their own name and code, even on a quiet day. The club's History then says who booked, moved or cancelled each time, for example "Jess Albright (front desk): Booked Station Test Pair ×2 for 18 holes at 10:40 AM." A shared name would hide that.

Still stuck?

Email support@back9ops.com and tell us your club's name, which name you tapped, and the exact words on the screen. Never send your code.
